5. Boston Pizza Fund raiser: Boston Pizza has a program whereby some sports teams can be set up to receive support based on receipts of visits to Boston Pizza. What this entails is that every time we eat at Boston Pizza (Kelsey or Stavanger location), we keep a copy of the receipt, collect them and submit them to Boston Pizza. Once reviewed and ok they would send us a cheque for 10% of the receipts. This excludes alcohol, Pasta Tuesday and promotions. The receipts can be collected by all MUFC players, coaches, staff and parents and submitted by a representative of MUFC. MUFC members can return their receipts to our office located at the rear entrance to the Goulds Library.

MUFC Week 7 messages:

1. Timbit Soccer Medal: For those children who missed the Timbit jamboree this past weekend, there is a Timbit medal for you in the soccer office. The Timbit medal represents their participation in that division throughout the summer so parents are asked to drop by the soccer office with their child to pick up their medal. Summer soccer is not over til the end of August!
Also, don’t forget after your child’s Timbits game, you can bring your child to our local Tim Horton’s in Goulds for 3 free timbits or a small frozen lemonade! The only condition is that this cannot be done at the Dive-Thru. Players and parents are asked simply to go inside to request the treats.

2. Regatta Day: A reminder that we do not have soccer games on Regatta day whether that is Wednesday or Thursday. If Regatta does not go ahead on Wednesday, we do have soccer games that evening.
MUFC has a booth at the Regatta this year so it would be great to have your support when you go down.

3. Turf Soccer field: Looking for individuals who would like to help push forward for one of our fields to be replaced with a turf surface. For the future of soccer in Goulds, this has to happen as every major club on the Avalon has a turf field. We need individuals who have experience with doing up a business plan and individuals with a knowledge of the various provincial or federal grants that are available for such an endeavor. Please respond to me directly.

4. Soccer Day camps: We only have 1 more week of soccer camps left from Aug. 12-16th. Only $75 for the week and $50 for any 3 days.

5. Office information: A reminder that our office is open from 4 – 9 pm from Monday to Thursday and 9 am to 12 noon on Fridays. Kelsey is our office manager so if you have questions she will help out. The number to the soccer office is 747-6832.

MUFC week 6 messages:

1. Turf Soccer field: At this time, we are looking for individuals who would like to help push forward for one of our fields to be replaced with a turf surface. For the future of soccer in Goulds, this has to happen as every major club on the Avalon has a turf field. We need individuals who have experience with doing up a business plan and individuals with a knowledge of the various provincial or federal grants that are available for such an endeavor. Please respond to csimmonds@nf.sympatico.ca

2. Timbit Soccer: The Timbit Jamboree for the U-4 Parent-tot group, the U-6’s, U-8 Boys and U-9 Girls will be held on Saturday, August 3rd. The schedule is attached in the Documents sections. All players will get a medal for participating as well as treats for parents and players.
Also, after your child’s Timbits game, you can bring your child to our local Tim Horton’s in Goulds for 3 free timbits or a small frozen lemonade! The only condition is that this cannot be done at the Dive-Thru. Players and parents are asked simply to go inside to request the treats. This is only for players with a Tim Horton’s jersey.

3. Lost & Found: More items have been added. Browse the Lost & Found page on our website. We have pictures of the items. If your child is missing an item, please look there to see if we have it. You are welcome to drop by the office to check for any items that are lost.

4. Game times: Please remember that games begin at 6:00 and 7:15 pm respectively. Many folks are arriving very late for their games, especially the 6:00 pm game. Please remember that the games finish at 7:00 and 8:15 pm no matter their start time so they will lose out of how much play time they have. The games are started as soon as there are enough players to play.

5. Office information: A reminder that our office is open from 4 – 9 pm from Monday to Thursday and 9 am to 12 noon on Fridays. Kelsey is our office manager so if you have questions she will help out. The number to the soccer office is 747-6832.

6. Soccer Day camps: We only have 2 more weeks of soccer camps left from July 29-Aug. 2 and Aug. 12-16th. Only $75 for the week and $50 for any 3 days.

Messages for this week 4 of Summer program;

1. Coaches needed: We still have several teams without coaches. This is making the instruction part of the game difficult as Instructors are having to coach instead of do the practice field instruction. Please approach an Instructor to let them know you will help. You can also go to the office to put forward your name and receive a coaches polo, free of charge.

2. Timbit Jamboree: Saturday, Aug. 3 is our Annual Tim Horton`s Timbit Jamboree for all players in the U-4 Parent-Tot program, U-6`s, U-8 Boys and U-9 Girls. A schedule of that day will be posted later this week. Tim Horton`s staff will be there with a tent to give out treats to players and parents and all players will get their first medal of the summer!

3. Ian Marshall Camp: On Monday and Tuesday next week - July 22-23 from 9 am - 2 pm we are hosting an Ian Marshall camp here in Goulds at the Eric Williams Memorial pitch. Ian Marshall is a former professional player in England and has been doing these camps around NL for several years now. They are very good and I highly recommend them. If you child is 8-13 years of age and is enjoying soccer this summer, this will be a great help to them. There are only 34 spots and half are already gone. Please go to the soccer office to register if you want a spot. The number of participants are strict so no more will be added after 34. Go to our Documents section to see a copy of the form to be completed and returned to the soccer office.

Final notice: If your child no longer wishes to participate, the last day to request a refund from our program is Monday, July 8th.

This date is strict and no other requests will be taken after that date. There is a $20 reduction from the original registration fee.

Please make all requests directly to Charlie Simmonds at mudirector@gmail.com with the full name of parent being refunded, child’s full name and division, and the mailing address to which it will be mailed.

Although we do have soccer camps beginning on Monday, July 1st, as it is Canada Day there is NO evening soccer games or practices.

Soccer program is starting tonight Monday, June 24th - We are a GO!

In terms of when we decide to cancel soccer, it depends on the field conditions in whether or not the field has standing water on it or not. Our fields are very good and can absorb a lot so that is not usually the problem. The other factor would be the intensity of the rain and for how long it is falling.

In general, we do not want to cancel soccer and will go ahead as much as possible.

More updates have been made to the teams. In particular, the colours to the teams in U-6, U-8 Boys and U-9 Girls.

Still looking for more parent participation. You`re going to be there anyway :)

A reminder that parents are on the opposite side of the field as the coach and the players and players will go to a practice pitch when they are not on their shift playing.

Also, please ensure your child has shin guards on with the socks over them, not exposed.

All schedules and teams are sorted and can be found in the "Documents" section to the left. The years of birth are included in the file names to make it easier for parents to know which division their child is playing.

The summer program begins on Monday, June 24th. The instructors will direct parents and players to their proper field and distribute the player t-shirts.

Most teams do not have coaches! Please consider helping out. This is just being a rotation coach and ensuring all player rotate on and off the field.

The soccer office hours for the summer beginning on Monday, June 24th are 4 - 9 pm from Monday to Thursday and 9 - 12 noon on Fridays. The office phone number is 747-6832.

A couple of important notes concerning the Fall Outdoor program;
1. We did not have enough interest for a U-4 nor a U-12 group so there will not be a session for them.
2. We have groups in U-6, U-8, and U-10. All groups are mixed with male and females. New Registrations can be taken at the field tomorrow, just place the $50 cash or cheque (to MUFC) in an envelope and pass on to the instructors.
3. Times are as follows: U-10’s from 12:00 – 1:00, then the- U-8’s from 1:00 - 2:00, finally the- U-6’s from 2:00 – 3:00 pm.
Always check your email before leaving for soccer.
4. As this is an outdoor program we are dependant on the weather and field conditions. So even if it is not raining the field may be too mushy to play on. If there are any cancellations, an email will be sent as early as possible.
5. Please email mudirector@gmail.com if you have any questions regarding our programs.

The Fall Outdoor program begins tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 15th) and our summer instructors, Liam and Blair, will be there to run things for the first weekend (Sunday included).

The idea behind the outdoor program is to have the players play a controlled game of passing and skill on the mini-fields. They will have to make a certain number of passes before being able to score, the goaltender will not be able to kick directly at the other net or it will be a free kick to the other team, and no goals can be scored inside the small goaltenders box. Again we want this to be a controlled environment to help encourage players to dribble and pass, then score when the right time is available.

Due to request from the City of St. John’s with unforeseen circumstances, we must cancel ALL soccer this evening - Monday. August 6th.
